2010 August 3rd 2010 The Bell pub has been closed for a while - as mentioned in our Quick Pub Guide. We have just learned that the refurbishment is to include an on-site Indian restaurant. NOW OPEN! (October 2010). May 2010 Cumin's on Hoe Street is now called Elephant God so I guess it's a new restaurant! Yet to visit but if anyone out there has, please let us know. Elephant God has it's own website...
March 22nd 2010 The Castle has changed its menu and now has only four starters, five main courses and three desserts to choose from. All mains are now under £10. Let's hope it works for them. March 16th 2010 Just to let you know that Priya is under new management now and sadly it doesn't bode well. Used to be a real regular there, great food, nice waiters, friendly to families but alas the new management don't seem to have got to grips with the menu or the service... might be worth sending along a new reviewer in a week or so? The new management urged us to go back and try it in a few weeks but I'm not sure. The food was decidedly average and took ages to arrive. Sad days! Liz H March 2010 The Castle announces gastropub status!
February 2010 Old news now but the William VI no longer sells Thai food - this is a terrible shame. October 20th 2009 July 9th 2009 The Castle re-opens June 24th The Village re-opens May 25th 2009 The Village pub closes for renovation - a new menu is promised upon re-opening Work is expected to be complete within six weeks. Due to re-open 17th June 2009 May 2009 The Castle has been sold and is currently undergoing renovation work - We wait with baited breath! April 2009 It
has become apparent that The
Castle has closed. We believe this is due to a downturn in
custom and It now joins the rather sad statistic of 27 pubs closing in
the UK every week (that's four a day!). For more details about the
demise of our pub culture please refer to the links below. March 2009
Just
to let you know, there is a new coffee shop opened in the High Street,
called Ricco's. It
is really lovely, done out in 1930's style. Just like you see in
Italy. At the moment they sell coffee & cakes, but you can also
buy coffee beans, or freshly ground coffee and the coffee is
delicious. Really worth a try.
Oh
yes, they are open seven days a week, until 10pm.
Foodie January 2009 An new Turkish restaurant has opened on High Street.
