The
Goose, formerly the Goose and Granite, also used to be called Flanagan's
and before that, Flanagan's Tower when it also had the rather unalluring
nom de plume of 'The Cut-Throat'.
Back then it had high, impenetrable, shuttered windows and you couldn't
tell whether it was open or not. This didn't matter too much because no
one was ever brave enough to go in there anyway. Don't worry, it's all
better now. Since the pub was taken over by the East London Pub Co, now
Mitchells and Butlers, we can all pop in for a pint and a bite to eat on
our way home from work or the shops without trepidation.
This large corner pub is located directly opposite Walthamstow Central
tube station and adjacent to the bus station and has many similarities with the Lord Palmerston - the beer is
cheap with Stella under £2.50 a pint and London Pride under £2.
The food is also
cheap and hearty (the menu is the same as the Palmerston's), and there
are many screens around the pub where you can catch up with the footy on
Sky – again just like the Palmerston which is also owned by Mitchells
and Butlers. This popular, busy pub opens late Friday and Saturday nights.
