Orford Saloon 32 Orford Road Walthamstow London, E17 9NJ map Tel : 020 8503 6542 Walthamstow Village needed a tapas bar and in 2006 it got one, and not a
bad one at that. The Orford Saloon has been a success from day one.
Formerly a barber's shop it offers the usual range of tapas along with a
few specials that change from time to time, although I do feel that the
there could be more choice. The atmosphere is pleasant and nicely-lit
with Spanish influenced decor and local art. The chef has been ‘imported’ from Spain to work in E17 (''fool!'' I hear you cry) and the Spanish appetisers are generally very good.
Service is friendly and prices are reasonable. But be careful not to
order too much (‘eyes bigger than belly’ syndrome is common). There are four choices of paella; meat, fish, vegetarian and mixed (at £21 but enough to share), all well worth the 45 minutes needed to prepare them. Wine is very
quaffable and costs between £14 and £28, my favorite is the Tinto
Rioja at £15-50. Tapas are £6 or £7 each but with one very special exception,
the free roaming (but not anymore), acorn fed, black pig or jamon at
£14-50. This restaurant is small and popular so booking is
essential for weekends and advisable weekdays... Adios... Sept 08
We have been regulars here since it opened
and can gladly say, have never had a bad experience.
We went again last Sunday lunch time, once
again had a lovely meal, with lovely wine, fab service &
atmosphere.
Going back very soon.
