Congratulations to the Moonlight Café for
being the first greasy spoon/working man's café to be included on this
site.
The Moonlight Café is a large, bright café on Wood Street serving the
kind of fare you'd expect of it. No better way to curb the Saturday
morning hangover (or any other day for that matter) than to treat
yourself to a fry-up.
The egg, chips, bacon and beans and the scrambled egg on toast with
fried tomatoes were all very acceptable with good portions and the toast
was made with thick slices of bread (white or brown) - just the way it
should be. A glass of fresh orange juice was perfect to clean the palate
but the coffee was awful - weak, cheap and instant even though they
advertise fresh coffee. Breakfast for two came to £8.50.
A recommended café – as long as they make sure they keep the
wholesale catering coffee under the counter.
